This is a plastic part which obturates the neck of the champagne bottle.
Their role is fundamental and indispensable to endure the pressure of fermentation and facilitate the containment of it by the crown (metalic) capsule. Moreover, its cup-shaped bottom retains most of the sediment present in the bottle, originating from precipitation occurred in the time period during which the bottle was upside down.
