The portable Refractometer is used to control the degree of ripening of the grapes in the vineyard. Some samples of grapes are collected and a few drops of must are dropped into the glass, then seen through the viewfinder and it indicates directly on the scale the probable alcohol as well as the sugar concentration in Brix degrees.
